Fall Transition: 5 Skin Saving Tips
Whether it feels like it or not today, fall and colder weather are on their way. You have probably noticed all of the magazines and articles talking about how to transition your wardrobe for the in-between season, but what about your skin? Read on for some great tips for how to help your skin be at its best as the mercury drops. The key thing to keep in mind as the days get cooler and shorter is moisture. Your skin naturally produces sebum to maintain its moisture barrier, but sometimes the weather can change too fast for your skin to adjust, leaving you with dull, dry skin. Here are our top tips for getting ahead of the season:
  1. Love to layer, layer, layer!
Even if you have oily or combination skin, a great moisturizer is key. For those with drier skins, you may want to keep a bottle in your bag or at your desk so you can reapply midday. A lightweight moisturizer like NENA won’t disturb your makeup and will deliver quick hydration.
  1. Check the temperature, but also the rating (on EWG):
Read those ingredient lists! It’s easy to think that a thicker cream will be more hydrating, but some products contain ingredients that will actually clog your skin and weigh it down. The EWG Skin Deep Database is an amazing resource for making informed decisions about the products you use. (Fun fact: all NENA products are rated 1 for safety on EWG!)
  1. Chase it with water:
Just like in the height of summer, drinking enough water to stay hydrated is so important this time of year. You might want to add an extra glass to your daily routine to help combat the drying effects of central heating!
  1. Store your bikini, not your face mask:
Time to put the clay mask away? Not so fast! While many clay masks can further dry your skin, NENA Clay Mask actually helps to draw moisture to your skins surface while removing toxins and gently exfoliating your skin. Depending on your skin type, we recommend a weekly or bi-weekly application year-round to maintain your natural glow!
  1. Simply glow:
If you do experience a sudden shift in your skins moisture level (such as starting to see dry patches or a tight feeling to your skin after cleansing) make sure the products you are using aren’t too harsh. A gentle cleanser is all you need morning and night, so take this time as an opportunity to simplify your routine while boosting radiance! Now, who’s ready for the apple orchard/pumpkin patch/corn maze outing? Happy Fall to all!
