Just in time for the summer season, we've launched our highly-anticipated, award-winning NENA SPF 30 Mineral Sunscreen. Non-nano zinc oxide offers immediate broad spectrum protection against UVA/UVB rays, while aloe vera, calendula, and green tea extract hydrates and soothes the skin.
Like all NENA Skincare products, we've included Sea Silt (glacial clay) in the formulation to offer further skin-protection benefits in our product.
The unique green pigment of the sunscreen also offers colour correcting effects for redness, and the cosmos-approved, 99% naturally derived formulation is reef and ocean friendly.
Why is sunscreen important?
Exposure to sunlight – including both UVA and UVB rays – is associated with damage to skin cells and DNA and to advanced skin aging. Sunscreen helps protect against the negative effects of UVA an UVB rays.
Americans continue to be diagnosed with melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer, at rising rates. A 2011 study of Australians found they cut their risk of melanoma in half by age 50 when they applied SPF 15 sunscreen daily, wore hats and avoided the sun in other ways. Two 2020 studies, one of perceived skin cancer risk and another on the safety and efficacy of sunscreen, both showed that sunscreens protect against melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancers.

Why is Mineral Sunscreen better?
We incorporate titanium dioxide and zinc oxide in our mineral sunscreen formula, as they function as physical barriers against UV rays. These ingredients have been widely acknowledged by the FDA as both safe and effective. By relying on physical blocking properties rather than chemical components, our sunscreen provides instant protection upon application, eliminating the need to wait for 20 minutes for it to take effect.

What does reef safe mean?
Our NENA Mineral Sunscreen formulation does not contain the active ingredients of oxybenzone and octinoxate (chemical ingredients found in conventional sunscreens), which can be toxic to fish, coral, and other marine life. In general, mineral-based sunscreen is often considered the reef and ocean friendly option, a small step to helping protect our earth.
Why is NENA Mineral Sunscreen green?
The unique green pigment of the sunscreen also offers colour correcting effects for redness. In colour theory, red and green are opposite colours. So green concealer, for example, works to neutralize and cover up redness (blemishes or blotchy-ness) on the skin, creating the appearance of an even skin tone.
